Second Occupier Announced At Westpoint Business Park

A few weeks on from the announcement of its first arrival, a newly-completed Renfrewshire business park is welcoming its second occupier after the signing of a lease by a local freight management company.

Geodis Wilson Ltd is the latest to take space at the Westpoint Business Park in Paisley, created by the Cart Corridor Joint Venture Company and delivered by global property group Goodman.

Geodis Wilson’s 16 staff will relocate from the Glasgow Airlink Industrial Estate in August 2010 to occupy the first floor of Building 3 (2,616 sq ft) at Westpoint at a cost of £15.50 per sq ft. A new 10 year lease has been secured.

Richard Martin, General Manager at Geodis Wilson, said: “As a global freight management and logistics company with a worldwide reputation for quality it was important to select premises that reflect our corporate values and image as well as meeting our location requirements: Westpoint is the ideal choice to meet those criteria.”

Westpoint offers a flexible office environment and its close proximity to Glasgow International Airport and the M8 makes it an attractive location for both local businesses and those trading internationally. The business park is the first stage of a wider mixed-use regeneration scheme, which when completed will also incorporate modern community facilities and residential developments.

Niall McGilp, Goodman’s Regional Development Director in Scotland, said: “Westpoint Business Park is building up momentum with two occupiers announced in the space of a month. The site’s proximity to excellent transport links and its flexible office layout has attracted another well-established company in Geodis Wilson and we look forward to welcoming the company and its staff.”

From its new offices at Westpoint, Geodis Wilson will manage the international transportation of goods and services for a variety of businesses and industry sectors.

Renfrewshire Council Leader Derek Mackay welcomed the announcement: “We welcome the decision by Geodis Wilson to invest at Westpoint Business Park in Renfrewshire. This is another important vote of confidence in Westpoint as one of the best new business locations in the West of Scotland and, of course, in Renfrewshire itself.

“The Council have been happy to support the development of the business space at Westpoint and have also assisted Geodis Wilson directly through our economic development team.”

Tim Jacobsen, Associate at commercial property agents Ryden, added: “This further letting at Westpoint reiterates the quality of accommodation available within the park and its attractiveness to occupiers.  We are confident of attracting further tenants in due course.”

At the beginning of July it was announced that Songa Shipmanagement Ltd, part of the Norwegian-based Blystad Shipping group, was relocating to Westpoint to occupy the whole of Building 2 (5,216 sq ft).

The Westpoint Business Park was opened by John Swinney MSP, cabinet secretary for finance and sustainable growth, in September 2009. Phase one of the park comprises 50,000 sq feet of modern office accommodation spread across five buildings; when fully developed, Westpoint Business Park will extend to over 200,000 sq.ft. of new business space.

The site was developed as part of a unique public/private sector partnership comprising Renfrewshire Council, Scottish Enterprise, RBS and Goodman.
