Four new retailers have leased stores within PRUPIM`s Wellgate Shopping Centre in Dundee City Centre, marking a significant upturn in letting activity in the 340,000 sq ft shopping centre.
The 23,000 sq ft former Woolworths store on the first floor mall has been sub-divided and 15,500 sq ft leased to Home Bargains on a new 15 year lease, with their store scheduled to open in October.
The leasing agents for the centre, Cushman & Wakefield, Smith Cole Wright and Shepherd Commercial are marketing the remainder of the space, which extends to approximately 7,500 sq.ft, and is located in an enviable position between Poundland and Home Bargains.
In addition, Yeomans Outdoor Leisure have recently opened a new store on the first floor mall. The 1700 sq ft store has been leased on a new 10 year lease. Wellgate was selected by the well established Midlands-based business for the site of one of their first Scottish stores.
On the ground floor mall, Poundmart has secured the former Zavvi store at the main entrance to the centre. The 9000 sq ft store has been leased on a new 10 year term. And finally Dundee independent Lucarno has opened their new shoe shop on the mall`s second floor, near to the recently refurbished foodcourt.
John Menzies of Cushman & Wakefield and Ian Wright of Smith Cole Wright, joint leasing agents at the centre commented: "34,000 sq.ft. of retail space has been leased in the Wellgate Centre already this year. The arrival of these four new retailers provides a major boost to the mall and introduces a number of new brands to Dundee City Centre for the first time.
“In addition to attracting well known multiple retailers, we remain committed to offering flexible leasing packages to local independent retailers looking to establish their retail business in the City. On that front, work is presently underway by the landlord to provide three "white box" retail units in the mall, to create ready to go shop units."
